Is Cormorant a good choice for a logo?

The parent family of the Cormorant group, drawn for very large sizes with pronounced stroke modulation. That makes it a natural fit for large-format monograms and print-first identities.

Text serifs bring warmth and a sense of establishment that no sans-serif can match, and at app-icon sizes they work perfectly well. The failure point is the favicon. Serifs are by definition finer than the stems they terminate, so they are the first detail that antialiasing removes, and once they are gone the letter reads as a slightly damaged sans. Choose a face with sturdy, low-contrast serifs — screen-first designs rather than print revivals — and if the mark must work at 16 pixels, test the exported ICO rather than trusting a scaled-down preview.

What to watch for at small sizes

Never use it below 48px; it is not a text face and does not pretend to be.

A favicon is rendered at 16 × 16 pixels. That is roughly the area of a single character of this paragraph, and it is where most typographic decisions stop mattering and start breaking. The reliable test is not to zoom out of a large preview — browsers resample that far more kindly than a real favicon pipeline does — but to export the actual favicon.ico and look at it in a browser tab.

The preview above is not text with a CSS font-family applied to it. The editor loads the Cormorant TTF from Google Fonts, parses it with opentype.js, and converts the glyph into an SVG <path> at weight 600. Cormorant covers a usable weight range, so you can dial the mark heavier for small sizes and lighter for large ones without changing the letterform. Because the export contains outlines rather than text, the mark renders identically for every visitor whether or not they have the font, and it stays crisp at any size.
