The R is the most opinionated capital in Latin type. The leg is where typefaces express themselves: straight and splayed, curved and tucked, joining the bowl or joining the stem, kicking out or dropping vertically. That makes an R monogram highly font-dependent, which is an opportunity as much as a problem. The difficulty is the junction where bowl, stem and leg meet — a three-stroke collision that traps ink exactly like the K's.
Treat the leg as the design decision. A splayed, straight leg (Archivo, Epilogue) reads as confident and modern; a curved, tucked leg (Lora, Merriweather) reads as traditional. Then check the junction at your chosen weight — if it goes solid, drop a weight. The R's leg extends right past the bowl, so shift the letter slightly left to keep it optically centred.
At 16px an R with a short leg becomes a P, and an R with a filled junction becomes a solid block. Choose a long-legged R and a mid weight; this letter does not benefit from extra boldness.
The R's outward leg needs room, so RA and RO both require positive tracking. RI works well. As with the K, the R is happiest as a solo monogram where its leg can extend freely into the container.

Geometric centring and optical centring are not the same thing. Nudge the R until it looks centred, not until the numbers say it is.
Corner radius changes the mood more than the font does. A 0% square reads as technical, 20% as an app icon, 50% as a personal avatar.
