Semi-geometric with unusually tight spacing and a slightly squared O — a modern-startup default for good reason. That makes it a natural fit for SaaS marks, especially two-letter lockups where tight fit matters.
Geometric sans-serifs are the default choice for app icons for a good reason: their circular bowls and even stroke weight fill a square container predictably, and they hold their shape under aggressive downscaling. The trade-off is distinctiveness. Because a geometric face is built from circles and straight lines, its round letters — O, C, G, Q — converge on the same silhouette, and a single capital in one geometric face looks much like the same capital in another. If you choose a geometric sans, put the identity in the colour, the container shape, or in a letter with diagonals rather than expecting the typeface itself to carry it.
Tight default sidebearings mean two-letter monograms can touch; add positive letter spacing.
A favicon is rendered at 16 × 16 pixels. That is roughly the area of a single character of this paragraph, and it is where most typographic decisions stop mattering and start breaking. The reliable test is not to zoom out of a large preview — browsers resample that far more kindly than a real favicon pipeline does — but to export the actual favicon.ico and look at it in a browser tab.
