Is Prata a good choice for a logo?

A single-weight Didone-adjacent face with pronounced contrast and elegantly tapered serifs. That makes it a natural fit for beauty, jewellery and boutique marks.

High-contrast faces put thick strokes against hairlines, which is precisely the quality that makes them feel expensive and precisely the quality that destroys them at small sizes. A hairline is defined relative to the stem, so as the icon shrinks the hairline crosses below one pixel and simply vanishes, leaving a letter with holes in it. Use this class deliberately: for a large app icon, a website header or a print mark it is unbeatable, and for a 16-pixel favicon it is the wrong tool. Many brands legitimately use a high-contrast mark large and a solid geometric fallback small.

What to watch for at small sizes

One weight, high contrast, thin serifs — a poor small-favicon choice by construction.

A favicon is rendered at 16 × 16 pixels. That is roughly the area of a single character of this paragraph, and it is where most typographic decisions stop mattering and start breaking. The reliable test is not to zoom out of a large preview — browsers resample that far more kindly than a real favicon pipeline does — but to export the actual favicon.ico and look at it in a browser tab.

The preview above is not text with a CSS font-family applied to it. The editor loads the Prata TTF from Google Fonts, parses it with opentype.js, and converts the glyph into an SVG <path> at weight 400. Prata ships as a single weight, so the weight control has no effect on it — adjust presence with optical size instead. Because the export contains outlines rather than text, the mark renders identically for every visitor whether or not they have the font, and it stays crisp at any size.
