Is Questrial a good choice for a logo?

A single-weight geometric sans with very open apertures and generous default spacing. That makes it a natural fit for airy, minimal marks on a strong colour field.

Geometric sans-serifs are the default choice for app icons for a good reason: their circular bowls and even stroke weight fill a square container predictably, and they hold their shape under aggressive downscaling. The trade-off is distinctiveness. Because a geometric face is built from circles and straight lines, its round letters — O, C, G, Q — converge on the same silhouette, and a single capital in one geometric face looks much like the same capital in another. If you choose a geometric sans, put the identity in the colour, the container shape, or in a letter with diagonals rather than expecting the typeface itself to carry it.

What to watch for at small sizes

One weight and a light colour; you can only add presence by increasing optical size.

A favicon is rendered at 16 × 16 pixels. That is roughly the area of a single character of this paragraph, and it is where most typographic decisions stop mattering and start breaking. The reliable test is not to zoom out of a large preview — browsers resample that far more kindly than a real favicon pipeline does — but to export the actual favicon.ico and look at it in a browser tab.

The preview above is not text with a CSS font-family applied to it. The editor loads the Questrial TTF from Google Fonts, parses it with opentype.js, and converts the glyph into an SVG <path> at weight 400. Questrial ships as a single weight, so the weight control has no effect on it — adjust presence with optical size instead. Because the export contains outlines rather than text, the mark renders identically for every visitor whether or not they have the font, and it stays crisp at any size.
