The J descends. In the majority of typefaces the capital J drops below the baseline, which means that when the app centres the glyph by its bounding box the letter sits visibly too high in the frame. The hook itself is also the only distinguishing feature, and it is a thin curve at the far end of a long stroke — the single most fragile part of any capital. Like the I, the J's upper two-thirds is a plain vertical.
Expect to nudge the J downward manually; the automatic centring will not get this letter right. Choose a face with a generous, wide hook rather than a shallow one — geometric faces like Poppins and Outfit draw a J hook that curves through a full quarter circle, which survives far better than the shallow hooks of Helvetica-derived designs. A heavier weight helps the hook keep its ink.
The J's hook is the first casualty at every size reduction. If the hook flattens, the J becomes an I, which is a genuine loss of meaning rather than a cosmetic degradation. Test at 16px before anything else.
The J's hook swings left into whatever precedes it, so JA and JM need positive tracking. The J is far more comfortable as the second letter, where its hook can swing into empty space — DJ and TJ are both clean.

Geometric centring and optical centring are not the same thing. Nudge the J until it looks centred, not until the numbers say it is.
Corner radius changes the mood more than the font does. A 0% square reads as technical, 20% as an app icon, 50% as a personal avatar.
