Is M PLUS Rounded 1c a good choice for a logo?

A Japanese-and-Latin family with fully rounded terminals and unusually uniform stroke weight across scripts. That makes it a natural fit for Japanese/Latin bilingual brands and soft consumer marks.

Rounded faces read as friendly, and that reading is strong enough to override almost every other signal in the mark — a rounded letter on a serious dark background still feels approachable. The technical catch is that rounding consumes effective stroke width: the corners of every stroke are cut away, so a rounded face at weight 600 has visibly less ink than a flat-terminal face at the same weight. Go one weight heavier than you would otherwise, and check the result at 16 pixels, where the rounding itself becomes invisible and only the reduced weight remains.

What to watch for at small sizes

The Latin is secondary to the Japanese design and its caps are on the plain side.

A favicon is rendered at 16 × 16 pixels. That is roughly the area of a single character of this paragraph, and it is where most typographic decisions stop mattering and start breaking. The reliable test is not to zoom out of a large preview — browsers resample that far more kindly than a real favicon pipeline does — but to export the actual favicon.ico and look at it in a browser tab.
